Database mapping

To map a list of identifiers from an external database to UniProtKB or vice versa:

  1. Paste the identifiers into the database mapping form that can be accessed from all pages via the Mapping tab.[*]
  2. Select a source database.
  3. Select a target database.

If you want to map all search results from a query in UniProtKB to another database, instead of transferring the identifiers into the mapping form yourself, click on the Mapping tab, select the target database and click on Map.[*]

After submitting the identifiers, you are forwarded to a download page where you can retrieve either:

If you mapped to UniProtKB, there is also a link to list the entries in a search result table, where they can be viewed, browsed, or filtered.

[*] Note that very large mapping requests (>100,000 identifiers) are likely to fail. If you prefer to run your mapping locally, you can also download the data underlying this service.

Previous versions of this service supported a larger set of cross-referenced databases. For performance reasons, we have removed the support for databases where the mapping relationship to UniProtKB identifiers is one-to-many, e.g. GO, InterPro or PubMed. For limited lists of such identifiers, it is possible to query UniProtKB using the text search form with identifiers combined by "or", e.g. "interpro IPR014000" OR "interpro IPR014002" OR "interpro IPR014003". One can then further use the "Customize display" link to remove unwanted columns from the table view, or edit the query string (URL) to add "&columns=id,database(interpro)" to it. The same addition can be made to the URL for download of the tab-delimited view, e.g. http://www.uniprot.org/uniprot/?query=%22interpro+IPR014000%22+or+%22interpro+IPR014002%22+or+%22interpro+IPR014003%22&format=tab&columns=id,database(interpro).
